Frankie Muniz Memory Fading

When your body starts to go as you get older, your mind is all you have left to recall the glory days. But what happens when you can’t remember your past and Ryan Gosling isn’t there to remind you of all the beautiful beginnings. It sucks when you’re slowly turning into the boy that never was but that’s the reality for Frankie Muniz who is dealing with longterm memory loss. The Malcolm in the Middle star’s mental health is deteriorating. He’s opened up about not even remembering his role as a lead on the show.

“It’s something that I never really wanted to talk about, because I’m just me and this is my life,” he said. “But we were talking about Malcolm [in the Middle] and how it started, and I don’t really have memories of being on the show.” Muniz said all he recalls of starring on the hit Fox sitcom, which ran for seven seasons from 2000-6, comes from “seeing an episode.” “I’m not a doctor person,” he added. “Every time I go to the doctors they just tell me I’m crazy.” Muniz, who suffered a serious car crash in 2009 while competing as a professional race-car driver, has also endured several concussions — but he says his health battle doesn’t affect his desire to work in Hollywood “at all.” The star has also been working with his girlfriend Paige to help with his memory loss, and each day, she writes down what they do together in a journal.

It’s sad seeing someone so closely connected to your childhood suffer. Malcom in the Middle was an amazing option for poor people who couldn’t afford cable. And it was relatable because he was poor on the show too. Now his life has turned into somewhat of the movie Memento. He says his girlfriend Paige helps him write things down in his journal to remember but that idea is still pretty scary. Giving your significant other the option to rewrite the rest of your life with a pen is too much power. Take a page out of Guy Pearce’s book and start tattooing everything you want to remember until you start looking like a rapper or run out of space. Whichever comes first.
